Industry Toolkit
Interest in creating environmentally sustainable and “greener” cities has lead to an increased use of green infrastructure practices in urban areas. Green infrastructure is most commonly associated with addressing costly challenges related to aging urban infrastructure, specifically, old and outdated “gray” infrastructure used to manage stormwater and prevent flooding. In addition to stormwater management and flood prevention, green infrastructure has numerous environmental, social, community, health, aesthetic, and economic benefits.
As of today, 951 certified green infrastructure and other practices have been put in place to manage stormwater throughout the greater Omaha area. An additional 1,139 green infrastructure and other practices are currently being designed or constructed. Over 2/3 of these projects include green infrastructure practices and range in size from small rain gardens to larger wetlands and retention ponds. With the implementation of these green projects steadily on the rise, knowledgeable and experienced workers are needed to maintain them into the future.
Below you will find a variety of resources and files on the various types of green infrastructure practices commonly used and how to implement them into your day-to-day business operations. Use these resources to get started on going green!!
